Bring new life to the artwork you already make. In this two-day workshop, artists will use Procreate on the iPad to transform sketches, paintings, photographs, prints and collage materials into original digital artworks. Through a series of creative exercises, participants will explore new possibilities for colour, texture, layering, cropping and visual storytelling. No previous experience with Procreate is required. The emphasis is on creativity, experimentation and artistic discovery.

Paint Your Heart Out is all about telling your story through composition.
Have you always been confused about how to use composition? It can seem like a lot of rules. This workshop will help you turn those rules into tools and give you the control to tell your story in your art. Learn principles like balance, unity, gradation plus many other tools to help tell your story in your artwork.
I will be using mostly landscape in my demonstrations, but you can use any subject you like.

Learn to limit our pastels down to 10-15 pastels and mix harmonious colours in our artwork. Using one red one blue and one yellow colour in a variety of lightness and darkness we can create the feel of Autumn summer winter or spring. We can also use the understanding of colour chords to find balance in your artwork.
Bring along an artwork or the image of one that the colour just didn’t quite work and you don’t know why. Exploring the balance of colour on the colour wheel we can make changes or adjust some of our colour choices to enhance our focal points.

Explore ‘naturalistic realism’ painting techniques, while incorporating elements of Impressionism and Romanticism. Learn about colours, colour/water relationship, colour temperature, intensity, tone, shadows, composition and much more. If you like colours and would like to bring emotion and the ‘Wow’ effect into your paintings, this workshop is for you – it is ideal for beginners, intermediate and experienced artists alike.
I will provide theoretical information and demonstrate various techniques, the easiest way for you to learn will be through the actual practical exercises. You will be working on an actual painting, where you will apply, step by step, the techniques demonstrated to you. The workshop will include a lot of individual tuition: I will work with you, at your own desk, after I demonstrate each of the techniques to the group.

Join artist Kristine Ballard for an inspiring three-day workshop exploring the colour, techniques and creative approaches of three of history’s most influential expressive painters. Through a series of guided painting exercises, demonstrations and discussions, students will discover how these artists used colour, light and composition to develop their own distinctive styles.
Each day focuses on a different colour master, encouraging participants to experiment with new techniques and incorporate these ideas into their own painting practice. Along the way, Kristine will share practical tips, painting methods and insights into the role colour has played throughout art history and in shaping each artist’s work.

Mixing Print Media – layered collagraph
Be inspired by the possibilities of using different plates in combination. Gain new skills and learn the finer points of composing images with a variety of printing plates, either as montage or as multiple registered plates.
Experiment with combining collagraph, drypoint etching and relief printing techniques. Discover what is possible by creating plates on the first day, then printing them together to build layered images and visual stories.
NOTE – Some printmaking experience is required for this workshop.

Join a meditative two-day Japanese ink art (Sumi-e) experience exploring abstract, expressive landscapes and the beauty of spring through cherry blossoms. Work with ink using a variety of techniques, discover your personal style, design and carve your own signature stone seal, and learn traditional backing methods to finish and preserve a favourite artwork.
