Experience a Japanese traditional art form, Sumi-e, to express your inner world and vivid scenes of nature using only the various tones of black Sumi ink and brush techniques. There is much more to creating an image during the process of Japanese ink painting; it is also a meditative and therapeutic practice to explore yourself.

Let’s experience Japanese ink art, Sumi-e. Japanese ink art is a philosophy, a way of living and an art form. In this course, you will prepare your own ink and then learn to use different Sumi ink tones and brush techniques to create Japanese ink painting (Sumi-e) with various subjects including Australian birds and plants.

This course is recommended for those who have attended the one-day course held the previous day or have taken Junko’s course in the past.

Join award-winning Canberra artist, Mark Redzic, for this two-day workshop covering the steps to complete a traditional landscape painting in oils using plein air techniques, similar to alla prima.  Instruction will be given on using the thin to thick paint method.  Students will be taught how to use colours to show aerial perspective.
